July 25th, 2011 0 Comments

Computer users made use of Wired Local Area Connections (LAN) nearly 8 years back. Normally, cables are put up to the length of the modem and routers. However, things have changed dramatically over the last 2 years with the popularity of Wireless Internet connectivity. Nowadays, routers have slots for both Wired and Wireless connectivity. With a wireless connections users need only have to install the router adjacent to the modem.

Suppose if you have more than one computers and they are all connected to wireless router. In such a case there is a need to monitor those connections with the help of Wireless Network Watcher. The freeware automatically scans your wireless network and displays the list of all computers and devices that are currently connected to your network.

Moreover, Wireless Network Watcher not only displays vital information such as IP address but also MAC address, the company that manufactured the network card, and optionally the computer name. You can then make use of the data for troubleshooting.

The utility also provides an ability to export the connected devices list into HTML/XML/CSV/Text file, or copy the list to the clipboard and then paste into Excel or other spreadsheet application.

In order to work with Wireless Network Watcher, you should first download the package, extract the contents and double click the file named WNetWatcher.exe. Please note that you need not have to perform any installation.

As soon as you open the executable file, you will be able to view a list of all wireless connections with their IP address, Device Name, MAC Address and other related information as mentioned previously. I attempted to create an HTML report but the program opened Visual Studio 2010. I hope the vendor will resolve this issue in the next release of Wireless Network Watcher.

The tool is an excellent utility and will be handy in case if you need to know the IP address of your router so that you can configure the router for internet and set security password. Normally, the manual which comes with the router will have the IP address of the router but Wireless Network Watcher will be handy in case if you misplace or lost the manual.
