Working with Everything – Desktop File Search Tool
Every day, PC users perform search inside their computers to find a particular folder or file. Windows 7 itself ships with robust search tools but it’s adventurous to make use of third party freeware tools such as Everything.
Developed by VoidTools, the freeware enables users to perform quick file indexing and searching including the ability to share files with other users easily. The software is light weight and doesn’t include complex user interface.
I managed to install the software quickly. However, Windows 7 User Access Control prompts you to allow permission to the software upon booting the system. It also pops up whenever you perform a search operation.
In order to perform a search, right click the folder and select the option titled Search Everything. If you select a folder then the tool displays a list of all folders and files inside that particular folder. For instance, I created a new folder named TEST_FOLDER and then selected Search Everything option from the Popup menu. You will view a figure as shown below

You can then provide the first few alphabets of the file name you are searching for and the software automatically displays them if available. This option will be useful if the folder contains lot of files.
From my point of view, Everything is very useful freeware software for those computer users who extensively perform search during their day to day work.
